Sex Education is a British Netflix series that premiered on January 11, 2019. The show Sex Education is Netflix's highest-rated and one of the most popular shows. The creator of this series is Laurie Nunn and it is her first series as a creator. Currently this show has 3 seasons and total 24 episodes, 8 per each. It is assumed that soon Netflix will release the 4th season of this show.

The show starts with Otis, an awkward kid who is completely normal but tagged as a weird kid by the popular ones. Otis's mother Jean (Gillian Anderson) is a renowned sex therapist and author and separated from her husband who is also an author and lives in the US. She works from home and therapizes people on their sexual life. Otis's best friend is named Eric (Ncuti Gatwa). They are best friends since they were nine. Otis is attracted to girls and Eric is attracted to boys. Otis has a huge crush on Maeve (Emma Mackey) but can't express his love and affection to her. Maeve is an intelligent and sarcastic social outcast and tagged as a bad girl at Moordale Secondary School. Maeve lives alone in the trailer park. Her father dumped her when she was little and her mother is a junkie. Maeve also has a brother who also chose the path of their mother. Since Otis's mother is a sex therapist he seemed to subjugate some of his mother's skills (sex therapy). One day Adam (Connor Swindells) took 3 Viagra and was crying in agony in the school's old toilet. Then Adam asked Otis and Maeve for help to get rid of this pain. The drama started there when Maeve saw how Otis is therapizing Adam with his subjugated sex therapy skill. That's how Maeve saw an opportunity to earn some money by running an illegal underground sex-advice clinic. Despite not having much sexual experience himself Otis is actually the therapist here and Maeve is his manager and Otis is really good at it. It turns out that a lot of students in the school have a problem associated with sex and coming to the clinic and Otis becomes the famous sex guru.

The whole school is divided into groups. For example, Otis's group consists of Otis and Eric, Ruby's (Mimi Keene) consists of Anwar (Chaneil Kular), Olivia (Simone Ashley), and Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood). Although later Aimee left the group and joined Maeve. Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) is in the group of sports buddies.
Apart from Otis and Maeve and their sex clinic the story also focuses on other characters. Eric is Otis's best friend and from going to school to returning home Eric is with Otis. Eric is struggling in his school life mostly because of Adam. Adam himself is messed up because of his family life and social distance. Adam's father Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie) is the headmaster of the school and he is highly disappointed in his son because of his behavior at school. Lily (Tanya Reynolds) is a virgin girl who desperately wants to have sex with someone. She kept asking people in the school to have sex with her but eventually gets rejected every time. Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) is also a popular kid in school. He is widely known for his swimming and is the head boy of the school. At the beginning of this show, Jackson hooks up with Maeve and has casual sex regularly. However, things got a bit hard for Jackson when his parents and the school expects a lot of things from him. Otis's mother Jean has no husband or boyfriend. She kept having sex regularly with the people she therapizes. But things changed for her too when one day a plumber named Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt) went to her house to fix her sink. Jakob is a widowed Swedish handyman who develops a relationship with Jean after working for her.

Sex is a major element of the show. But mental health, children-parent relationship, student-teacher relationship, friendship, love life, and responsibilities to other people also found a place in this show. It's a nice series that's startling in and of itself. Normally, seeing kids negotiate the terrible misery that is adolescence makes your skin crawl as you cover your eyes in shame. However, these personalities are treated with grace. After three seasons, there's also a presumption that, while life's nonsense is rough, cruel, and unpleasant, they'll be OK, even if emotionally damaged. (Isn't that how life is?)

Sex Education series is realistic and you can relate most of the things happening in this series to your daily life. There's a lot of nostalgia, which is understandable if you're an adult watching a bunch of teenagers figure out high school. But that's partly due to the odd visual, which is maybe my favorite aspect of the series. So, if you want to know how this master piece feels like head over to Netflix and enjoy.
